teens walking arms on shouldersIn a world where back problems can plague individuals for years, Tom McDonough’s story is one that serves as both a cautionary tale, and a beacon of hope.
Tom was injured as a teenager and lived with the consequences of that for years.

Tom’s journey to recovery began when he turned to chiropractic care to address his long-term back issues.

In this blog post, we’ll delve into Tom’s experience and how he found relief through chiropractic adjustments, decompression therapy, and cold laser therapy.

Tom McDonough’s Early Struggles

Tom’s journey with back issues started at the young age of 17 when he was involved in a severe toboggan accident. This incident left his friend with crushed vertebrae, but thinking he wasn’t hurt too badly, Tom didn’t seek immediate medical attention. Over the years, the problems in his back worsened, leading to a life filled with discomfort, headaches, backaches, posture problems, and strained personal relationships.

The Turning Point

Tom’s life took a positive turn when he decided to seek professional help for his persistent back issues. This is where Dr. Chris Quigley and the team at Charles Street Family Chiropractic entered the picture. The chiropractic experts recommended a multi-faceted approach to address Tom’s condition.

Chiropractic Adjustments: Tom’s treatment plan included chiropractic adjustments, which helped realign his spine and alleviate pain.

Decompression Therapy: Tom also underwent decompression therapy for his lower spine. This technique focuses on stretching the spine to relieve pressure on the discs and promote healing.

Cold Laser Therapy: To reduce inflammation in the affected areas, Tom received cold laser therapy. This non-invasive treatment plays a crucial role in the healing process.

The Transformation

Tom’s journey to recovery didn’t just stop at physical healing. He shared that he started feeling better than ever before. His height even seemed to increase, thanks to improved posture. With the guidance of the chiropractic team, he learned how to sit correctly and utilize the gravitational pull to maintain his spinal health.

A Life Transformed

Tom’s personal relationships also improved dramatically. His newfound confidence and well-being positively impacted his interactions with others. The combination of physical and emotional well-being led to a significant transformation in Tom’s life.

Tom’s Message to His Younger Self

Reflecting on his journey, Tom had some valuable advice for his younger self. He wished he had discovered chiropractic care and its holistic approach to health earlier. He emphasizes the importance of education, knowledge, and compassion in the healing process.

Tom McDonough’s remarkable journey from debilitating back pain to newfound vitality is a testament to the power of chiropractic care. His story serves as an inspiration for anyone struggling with long-term back issues. Through chiropractic adjustments, decompression therapy, and cold laser therapy, Tom not only found relief but also experienced a positive transformation in his overall quality of life. “I was majoring in chemistry at Villanova University when my path turned to chiropractic. I was going on interviews to be a pharmaceutical sales representative, and they always asked me what I wanted to be doing in five years. My answer was always the same: “I want to be helping people, enjoying my work, while making a difference.”

Before Back Surgery: What Three Important Studies Say About Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression

The number that should stop every elective-surgery patient in their tracks is 94%.
In a large 2017 Journal of Pain Research study of 1,842 people who had undergone lumbar spine surgery, 94% reported some degree of residual low-back pain. That does not mean 94% had severe pain, nor does it mean 94% of the operations were surgical failures. But for an invasive procedure that many patients understandably hope will eliminate their back pain, the persistence of any low-back pain in such a large proportion of respondents is difficult to dismiss.
The same study found that 20.6% met the researchers’ criteria for failed back surgery syndrome —roughly one out of every five patients. Residual numbness was reported by 69.8%, cold sensations by 43.3%, and paresthesia such as tingling or abnormal sensations by 35.3%.
